Dr. Azadeh Vosoughi - Member at large
Azadeh was born and raised in Gorgan and moved to Tehran at the age of 15. After earning her bachelor’s degree from Sharif University of Technology, she completed her Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University in 2006. She served on the faculty at the University of Rochester from 2006 to 2012 and has been a professor at the University of Central Florida since 2012. A recipient of the NSF CAREER Award, her research focuses on wireless communications, signal processing, and brain signal analysis. She has mentored and graduated 10 Ph.D. students, all of whom have gone on to lead successful professional and personal lives. She continues to mentor two additional Ph.D. students and is widely recognized for her inclusive and compassionate approach to mentorship.
In memory of her late husband, Dr. Alireza Seyedi—who earned his Ph.D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI)—she established two endowed scholarships to support doctoral students in engineering: one at UCF and one at RPI. Deeply committed to education and equity, she also funded and built two elementary schools for girls in underserved areas of Iran: one in a suburb of Ardabil (2015) and another in a village near Gorgan (2016). Together, these schools now serve over 400 students.
Dr. Vosoughi brings to IACC a strong dedication to education, community empowerment, and the preservation of Iranian heritage through meaningful cross-cultural connection.
